Thankful

I’ve been sitting here staring at a blank page for a bit now. I’ve done a quick troll of other blogs to find a meme to save the day, and finally, I’m just calling it Day Before Thanksgiving Busyness. I’ve just made or prepped half the food for tomorrow and my mom has made some seriously strong Manhattans.

How will tomorrow’s meal go?

Well, that we actually got our bird is a minor miracle. See, I ordered a smoked turkey from the processor down the street (where we get our beef and pork) and then forgot to pick it up. Thankfully they called (thing #1 to be thankful for tomorrow) and I broke land speed records to pick up my garlic-butter cured smoked turkey.

My parents are quite laid-back, which is wonderful at the holidays. Thing #2 to be thankful for is that I had to do some quick last-minute menu alterations when I realized I was two pounds short of breakfast sausage and there was no way I was sending my poor husband to the store at 3:30 the day before Thanksgiving. So we’re vamping for breakfast tomorrow, and appetizers (called noshes here) have changed. Whatevs.

<clenched teeth> Thing #3 of thankfulness is that I have children and they are healthy and can see and hear the @%^#^&*^%$@^#$ SpongeBob Squarepants marathon that has been on all.motherlovin’.day. My rule here for SpongeBob is that you must be vomiting or Grandma must be visiting. I’m about to stick my head in the oven.

Thing #4: Manhattans. ‘Nuff said.

Thing #5: I have a happy and healthy family. They love me and I love them. We have a roof over our heads and food on our table. As stressed and crazed as I am, I know I am blessed.

And for that I am thankful.
