What makes you nuts?

Out here, on the Front Range of Colorado, there is one thing that is guarandamnteed to make people stark raving mad.

No, it’s not the Broncos.

No, it’s not fresh powder in the mountains and the knowledge that you have to suffer through driving on I-70 to enjoy it.

It’s the wind.

The unholy, please God make it stop, wind.

The blowing tumbleweeds (yes, they really exist and they suck) that attach themselves to the undercarriage of the car. The “why did I bother?” hairdo. The smell of dust throughout the house. The layer of dust and dirt and God knows what else in the window and deck door tracks. The sound of the attic vents slapping. Seeing the water in the toilet bowls slosh around the bowl. Exhausting yourself trying to keep the van in a straight line driving.

We’re getting a little bit of wind today.

As in, 20-30 miles per hour, with the possibility of gusts up to 80+ mph. Folks, that’s hurricane force winds. And I have a construction site directly behind my house.

Anyone want to take bets on what will come flying over the fence and hit my house? And at what hour? I’m going with a piece of pipe at 2:34 am.

  1. I am saying a piece of tin the size of a small car around 5am. While the kids are fast asleep.

5am is the worst time to be woken I think. Too early to get up, too late to get a decent amount of sleep.

Oh and I just posted about Clinkers if you are still wondering!! LMAO

We live at the end of a cul-de-sac and our fence just loves to catch all my neighbor’s trash (today was trash day). Happens all the time! I know what kinds of microwavable meals my neighbors enjoy, I know what they baught at costco, and I get to read some of their mail, all because it slams against my fence at 80 miles per hour and stays there!

  3. I can empathize. Back in the 70s when I drove over the road and had to climb out of Kansas to get to Colorado, I knew between the incline and the wind, my fuel mileage was always gonna take a serious hit. But heading West was easier than North or South. Especially if I was haulin air. The wind out of the West once knocked me off the road near 4 corners. Thankfully my rig stayed upright and I was able to drive back on the road. And also thankfully, I had a clean pair of britches to change into.

  4. We’ve had a bunch of wind here lately, too. I lived 8 years just 5 miles from the Kansas border along Highway 50 and now we live in Texas north of Houston. We have this carport that scientists could use for testing aerodynamics! The original owner of the house to put two ceiling fans in the carport. We promptly took them down after a very windy day. The blades were spinning so fast that they became a danger to our cars, especially when one of the fans became unbalanced. Scary!

Whaddya think?
